The Bear Necessities is our 4BR/4BA mountain log cabin retreat located approximately 4000 feet in elevation near Banner Elk and Boone, NC. The cabin has breathtaking views of Beech Mountain year round, you can even see Beech Mountain Ski Resort ski trails. Late fall thru spring views provide a beautiful panoramic view. The cabin has plenty of space for your escape to the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains.
The home is set on an 11 acre private retreat with plenty of areas to explore and enjoy solitude and privacy. This is a true escape from all of the hustle and bustle of everyday life!
On the main floor, you'll find the master king bedroom with private bath, living room with a stone faced wood burning fireplace, kitchen and access to the huge wrap around porch. The porch offers two porch swings and additional seating to take in the beautiful view and hear the nearby rivers as they flow. Not uncommon to see wildlife, including, deer, turkey and an occasional bear. The Kitchen is well appointed and can accommodate family meals. There is a regular coffee maker with filters (no Keurig). The TV in the living room has a Roku so you can watch your favorite movie on Netflix, Disney+, or any other app on the device (you provide your log in information). There is a gas grill outside in front of the deck as well for all of your grilling needs.
Upstairs, you'll find two queen spacious bedrooms each with their own private baths. Each bedroom has a TV with digital antenna and pull in local major networks (limited channels).
Downstairs holds an additional walk out basement with an entertainment room for movies on the TV with our Roku device, ping pong or foosball, along with a large bedroom that holds a queen bed and two twins and another full bathroom.
Enjoy the large fire pit outside (wood not provided) of the home while you see the huge view in the distance while staying at Bear Necessities. A short 10 minute drive gets you to Laurel Creek Falls hiking and exploring as well as the Watauga Gorge River access. The Bear Necessities is located just 25 minutes from Boone, shopping and Appalachian State University, in the quiet community of Sugar Grove. There are 2 public golf courses and Watauga Lake within a 25-30 minute drive. Just a 30-40 minute drive from our cabin is , Sugar Mountain Ski Resort and Appalachian Ski Mountain. You'll fall in love with our cabin and a wonderful and quiet community. We are within 20-60 minutes to all of the High Country Attractions and Beech Mountain Ski Resort
